Baby On Board

BABY ON BOARD

Music by Denis King - Book & Lyrics by Mary Stewart-David

A year in the life of Mel and Hillary Bright-Brown as observed and interpreted by their children: Toby is ten months old going on forty-five. He can’t talk yet, but he’s got a lot to say--about he state of his parents’ marriage, and his relationship with a woman three times his age, his sister India. Of course, no one can hear what Toby really thinks, except us. A musical view of parenthood, dedicated to anyone who has ever struggled to bring up a child, has resolutely avoided having a child, was once a child, or still is a child.

KINGS’ COMMENTS:

The highspot was learning that Alan Ayckbourn liked our show and wanted it as part of his season at his theatre. Mary Stewart-David and I went up to Scarborough to meet the great man who, almost apologetically, asked if we’d mind terribly if he directed the piece and, well, after much deliberation, we decided we’d give the young unknown a chance.

"Baby On Board” was the beginning of an enjoyable and fruitful working partnership with Alan which is still going strong.  Denis King

Without question, my favourite musical ever, along with it’s scaled down cast-of-four version, “Happy Familes - Tangled Lives”.  Astrid King
